Together Komen Denver and The Raymond Wentz Foundation are able to provide services for many individuals fighting breast cancer across Colorado. The grant provided to The Raymond Wentz Foundation by Komen Denver provides support for 12 additional individuals facing breast cancer and in need of assistance each month throughout the year.
One individual impacted by the funds is Joan, age 62, from Jefferson County. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2012. Her treatment included bilateral mastectomies, chemotherapy and radiation. A survivor of childhood polio, Joan is developmentally delayed and struggled to make ends meet even prior to her breast cancer diagnosis. Komen Denver funding allowed The Raymond Wentz Foundation to provide $500 of financial support to Joan, which helped her to pay her rent while she was undergoing treatment during a particularly difficult time.
The Raymond Wentz Foundation reports that funding through Komen Denver allows the organization to provide desperately needed funds to nearly 30% more patients in a given year. Additionally, the partnership allows Komen Denver and The Raymond Wentz Foundation to connect overlapping patient populations to a wider pool of resources in the Colorado community.
Collaboration with organizations such as The Raymond Wentz Foundation that receive funding from Komen Denver allows us to give hope to women like Joan and many others across Colorado that do not have to fight breast cancer alone.
